Experiencing the loss of my first child while pregnant with my second made my initial mothering story one of vulnerability. Yet it was the healing power of my art that helped me bring my children through the challenges of our lives. Making them central subjects in my art, bringing them vividly to life in paint, imbuing them with iconic presence--all helped me to see, nurture, understand and cherish them.
Accessing a child's sense of wonderment is essential to the artistic process; our children take us beyond whatever we have known. Even when the back-stories were not as sunny as the colors in the art, opening to each child's respective journey, has been a way to recognize and follow them.
